Hyundai WIA Corporation was founded in 1976 in Changwon, South Korea as part of the Hyundai Motor Group, and became Korea's largest machine tool builder by 2000. Machine tool production launched in 1977, and in 1983 the company developed Korea's first machining center. Originally known as WIA (World Industries Ace), the business was renamed Hyundai WIA in 2009. The machine tool division produced more than 100 different CNC machines, including lathes, machining centers, and multitasking machines engineered in Changwon and supplied worldwide to automotive, aerospace, medical, mold & die, and general manufacturing. In July 2024, the machine tool division was spun off and sold to a consortium led by Rylson Private Equity, now operating independently as WIA Machine Tools from Changwon with North American sales and service through Itasca, Illinois. Used machines on the secondary market continue to carry the Hyundai WIA brand name.

Hyundai WIA Turning Centers & Multi-Tasking

Hyundai WIA's turning lineup covers compact KIT-Series and SE-Series machines, the widely traded L-Series universal turning centers (L200, L210, L300, L2000), the LB long-bed series for shaft work, LM twin-spindle twin-turret lathes (LM1600TT, LM1800TT), and multi-tasking Y-axis and sub-spindle configurations (L2100Y/SY). The LV-Series vertical turning centers handle large chucking work. 30-degree to 60-degree slanted one-piece beds, box or roller guideways, and FANUC controls make these among the most popular Korean-built lathes on the used market.

Hyundai WIA Machining Centers & 5-Axis

The KF-Series (KF4600, KF5600, KF5700B, KF6500, KF7600) vertical machining centers are the brand's most traded VMCs, with direct-drive or built-in spindle options up to 20,000 RPM. The F-Series Value Master (F500, F650, F750) delivers production VMCs at entry-level investment. The KH-Series and HS-Series (HS4000, HS5000, HS6300, KH1000) horizontal machining centers feature twin pallets and CAT-40 or CAT-50 taper. KF5600/5A and XF-Series machines cover trunnion-style 5-axis work for aerospace and mold applications.

What to Look for When Buying a Used Hyundai WIA

Hyundai WIA machines feature heavy cast-iron construction, FANUC controls, and proven automotive-production pedigree. Here's what to inspect.

Check spindle, turret, and ballscrews on turning centers. Measure spindle runout across the full RPM range. On L-Series and SE-Series lathes, inspect the turret for smooth indexing and verify each station locks square. On BMT live-tooling machines, test each live station for speed and torque. Check ballscrew backlash on X and Z. On sub-spindle machines (LM-Series, L2100SY), confirm handoff and synchronization.

Inspect VMC and HMC spindles, guideways, and ATC. Test spindle bearing noise, runout, and thermal growth after warm-up. On KF-Series VMCs, identify whether the spindle is direct-drive, built-in, or gear-driven. Cycle the ATC through every pocket and verify tools seat properly. On box-way machines, confirm way surfaces are flat. On KH and HS horizontals, test pallet changer repeatability.

Verify FANUC control, electronics, and automation. Most Hyundai WIA machines ship with FANUC controls (0i, 18i, 31i series). Power on the control, check alarm history, and verify servo, spindle, and I/O status. On multi-axis machines, confirm all axes calibrate and home properly. Test coolant, chip conveyor, and tool-setter.

Hyundai WIA Turning Centers

L-Series Universal Lathes

The L-Series is Hyundai WIA's best-selling turning platform. The L200 and L210 are compact 8-inch chuck lathes; the L300, L2000, and larger variants extend to 10-inch, 12-inch, and bigger capacities. Heavy cast-iron beds, 12-position servo turrets, FANUC controls, plus Y-axis and sub-spindle options.

SE-Series & KIT-Series Compact

The SE-Series (SE2200, SE2200L) and KIT-Series (KIT4500, KIT250) are compact production lathes with slanted one-piece beds. High-speed servo turrets (0.1 sec/step) and 30 m/min rapids make these popular in small-part contract and automotive Tier-2 work.

LM Twin-Spindle & Multi-Tasking

The LM-Series (LM1600TT, LM1800TT, LM1800TTSY) twin-spindle twin-turret lathes deliver complete-machining in a single setup. The L2100Y/SY adds a wedge-type Y-axis and BMT 65 turret for full mill-turn capability.

LV & LB Vertical and Long-Bed Lathes

The LV-Series vertical turning centers (LV450, LV800, LV1100RM) handle large-diameter chucking. The LB-Series long-bed lathes accommodate long shafts for energy and oilfield work.

Hyundai WIA Machining Centers

KF-Series Vertical Machining Centers

The KF-Series is the brand's core VMC platform and the most traded on the used market. The KF4600 and KF5600 are high-speed VMCs with direct-drive spindles up to 12,000 RPM (built-in to 20,000 RPM), 30-tool ATC, and 3.2-second chip-to-chip. The KF5700B uses box guideways and gear-driven spindles. The KF6500 and KF7600L extend into production and mold work.

F-Series Value Master

The F-Series Value Master line (F500, F650VM, F750) delivers production VMCs at accessible investment levels. CAT-40 spindles, 24-tool ATC, and linear guideways make these strong entry machines for job shops.

5-Axis & Tapping Centers

The KF3500/5A, KF5600/5A, and XF-Series 5-axis VMCs use trunnion tables for aerospace, mold, and medical work. The iCUT tapping centers deliver high-speed drilling and tapping.

HS & KH Horizontal Machining Centers

The HS-Series (HS4000, HS5000, HS6300) and larger KH-Series (KH1000) horizontals feature twin pallets, CAT-40 or CAT-50 tapers, and high-capacity tool magazines.
