  • Who is liable if the machine is damaged in transit?

The carrier is responsible for in-transit damage, which is why we strongly recommend only using carriers with at least $100,000 in cargo insurance and double air-ride equipment. Declare the machine's value on the bill of lading — for higher-value machines, ask the carrier for a rider to increase coverage to full declared value. Inspect the machine at delivery before signing; note any damage on the bill of lading and photograph it immediately to preserve your claim.

  • How do I insure my equipment against damage during shipment?

We recommend only using carriers that are experienced in hauling and securing heavy machinery and ones that use only double air ride equipment. All carriers should have a minimum of a $100,000 in cargo insurance and should be able to provide a valid COI showing that. The value of the equipment should always be declared and stated on the bill of lading to avoid any discrepancies. If the equipment being shipped value is greater than $100,000 most carriers will provide a rider increasing coverage to the declared value for a nominal premium.
