JPW Industries is the parent company of these leading brands, and Resell CNC carries used equipment from across the full JPW portfolio.

JPW Industries was founded in 1958 when Leslie P. Sussman launched JET Equipment after taking the first Boeing jet flight from Seattle to Japan. The company began as a dealer of manual chain hoists and trolleys sold from a single hardware store in Tacoma, Washington, and grew through the 1970s and 1980s into metalworking and woodworking machinery. The 2002 merger of JET with Wilton Tool Group formed the WMH Tool Group, and the company was reorganized as JPW Industries, Inc. in La Vergne, Tennessee. JPW acquired Edwards Manufacturing (ironworkers, 140+ year heritage), Baileigh Industrial (metalworking and woodworking, founded 1999 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin), and Axiom Precision (CNC routers). Today JPW operates seven brands with over 400 years of collective heritage, selling through distributor networks worldwide from operations in the United States, Europe, Taiwan, and China.

What to Look for When Buying Used JPW Industrial Equipment

JPW brands (JET, Baileigh, Wilton, Edwards) produce rugged shop equipment designed for daily industrial use. Used units frequently retain years of productive service.

On lathes and milling machines (JET, Baileigh), check spindle, ways, and gears. Measure spindle runout at the nose using a test indicator. On gear-head lathes and mills, shift through all speed ranges and listen for grinding, chattering, or hesitation. Check the bed or column ways for wear using a straightedge and feeler gauges, focusing on the area nearest the headstock or spindle where wear is heaviest. On milling machines, verify the quill feed and table travel for smooth operation with no backlash or binding.

On band saws and ironworkers, inspect the frame, blade guides, and hydraulics. On JET and Baileigh band saws, check blade guide bearings and backup bearings for wear. Verify the hydraulic feed system (on gravity or hydraulic models) produces smooth, consistent downfeed. On Edwards ironworkers, cycle each station (punch, shear, notch, bend) and check for clean cuts and full ram travel. Inspect hydraulic cylinders, hoses, and fittings for leaks. On dual-operator models, test both stations independently.

On vises (Wilton), check the jaws, screw, and slide. Open and close the vise through full travel. The screw should turn smoothly with no gritty feel or excessive play. Check the jaw faces for chips, cracks, or excessive wear. On swivel-base models, verify the swivel locks securely with no movement under load. On machine vises, indicate the fixed jaw for squareness to the table.

JET Metalworking Machines

JET's metalworking product line is one of the broadest in the industry. Engine lathes and gear-head lathes span from bench-top models through 13" x 40" (GHB-1340A) and 14" x 40" (GH-1440ZX) to large-swing models. Vertical milling machines include the JTM series (JTM-1050, JTM-1254) with variable speed or step-pulley drive. Band saws range from portable horizontal models (HVBS-56M) through floor-standing horizontal saws (HBS-1018W) to vertical contour saws. Drill presses span bench (JDP-15M) to floor (JDP-20MF) models. JET also produces bench and pedestal grinders, hydraulic presses, and cold saws.

Baileigh Industrial Metalworking

Baileigh focuses on forming, bending, and fabrication equipment. Tube and pipe benders (RDB series) are Baileigh's signature product for roll bending, mandrel bending, and rotary draw applications. Press brakes (BP series) range from manual to CNC hydraulic. Plate rolls (PR series) handle sheet and plate forming. Band saws (BS series) include horizontal and vertical models for metal cutting. Baileigh also produces metalworking lathes, milling machines, and plasma tables. The RMD subsidiary designs and manufactures Baileigh-branded products in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Wilton Vises & Workholding

Wilton vises are among the most recognized workholding products in North America. The Tradesman series delivers heavy-duty bench clamping for fabrication and maintenance. The Machinist series provides precision ground jaws for machine shop accuracy. Utility and Mechanics vises serve general-purpose applications. Wilton also produces woodworking vises, C-clamps, bar clamps, toggle clamps, and the B.A.S.H line of unbreakable striking tools. Wilton vises are standard equipment in machine shops, maintenance departments, and vocational programs nationwide.

Edwards Ironworkers & Fabrication

Edwards Manufacturing carries over 140 years of heritage in ironworking machinery. Single-operator and dual-operator ironworkers combine punching, shearing, notching, and bending capability in a single machine, saving floor space in fabrication shops. Edwards also produces standalone hydraulic notchers, punches, and compact press brakes. These machines are designed for structural steel and plate fabrication where multiple operations are performed on the same workpiece.

What is the relationship between JPW Industrial, JET, Baileigh, and Wilton?

JPW Industries, Inc. is the parent company. JET, Baileigh, Wilton, Edwards, Powermatic, Axiom Precision, and Promac are all brands owned and operated by JPW. Each brand maintains its own product identity and engineering, but all share JPW's distribution network and service infrastructure based in La Vergne, Tennessee.

Are used JET and Baileigh machines reliable?

Yes. JET has manufactured metalworking equipment since the early 1980s with a focus on durability for daily shop use. Baileigh machines (particularly USA-made RMD products from Manitowoc, Wisconsin) are built to industrial standards. Both brands support parts availability and service for current and legacy models.

What should I inspect before buying used JPW brand equipment?

On lathes and mills, check spindle runout, way condition, and gear shifting. On band saws, verify blade guides and hydraulic feed. On ironworkers, cycle each station and check hydraulics. On vises, test screw smoothness, jaw condition, and base lock. All models should be run under power before purchase.

What JPW brand products hold their value best?

JET gear-head lathes and JTM-series mills, Baileigh tube benders and press brakes, Wilton Tradesman and Machinist vises, and Edwards dual-operator ironworkers maintain the strongest resale values. Call (844) 478-8181 for current valuations.

Are Baileigh machines made in the USA?
