1995 Current EDM ST300 Manual Small-Hole EDM Drill

This 1995 Current EDM ST300 is a Japanese-built manual small-hole EDM drill — a "hole popper" — built around 12" x 8" x 16" of X/Y/Z travel, a 10.5" guide-axis (W) stroke, and a precision-lapped 12" x 12" granite worktable that holds workpieces up to 682 lbs in an 18" x 16" flushing work tank. Running 220V / 3 KVA power with 30 A mean / 57 A peak discharge, a servo-controlled head, XYZ DRO, drill-depth input, and electrode diameters from 0.004" to 0.256" (0.1-6.5 mm), it pops starter holes through hardened tool steel and exotic alloys to depths up to 300x the electrode diameter — drilling a 0.040" hole through 1" tool steel in roughly 35 seconds, virtually burr-free, at any angle.

Compared to a conventional drill press or older spark-erosion poppers that rely on manual feel with no positional feedback or automation, the ST300 adds an XYZ digital readout, automated initial zero-set, auto mode, electrode-retract input, and a discharge-on-timer with an independent volt/amp meter for fine servo control — features that turn a single-purpose hole driller into a repeatable, walk-away platform for wire-EDM starter holes, broken-tap removal, and cooling-line work that a bare popper can't match.

About This Machine

The 1995 Current EDM ST300 puts burr-free hole-popping on your floor without a CNC price tag — drilling a 0.040" hole through an inch of hardened tool steel in about 35 seconds, at any angle, where twist drills bind, break, or wander. With 12" x 8" x 16" travels, a 12" x 12" granite table, XYZ DRO, and electrodes from 0.004" to 0.256", it's the machine that makes the impossible starter hole routine.
