The DMS Freedom 8 is a 3-axis moving-gantry CNC router with a reputation for rigid, repeatable performance that has made the DMS Freedom line a staple in nested-based manufacturing, sign making, and panel-processing shops. Built by Diversified Machine Systems on a heavy steel frame, this 2022 machine offers a 48 x 96 inch cutting area with 12 inches of Z-axis travel and 9 inches of clearance under the bridge, handling full 4 x 8 sheets of wood, plastic, composite panel, and light aluminum in a single setup. Motion runs on precision recirculating ball screws with laser-calibrated X and Y axes and high-torque Fagor AC servo motors and amplifiers, delivering rapid feed rates up to 1,400 IPM. The ISO 30 Hiteco Powertech 300 electrospindle is rated to 24,000 RPM and 12 HP, fed by an 8-position automatic tool change rack with an automatic tool height sensor for fast, accurate tool setting. A Fagor 8070 OL control with a 17 inch color LCD handles programming and runs G-code, with Ethernet, USB, and RS-232 connectivity. Compared to earlier-generation Freedom routers built around the Fagor 8037 control and its compact 7.5 inch display, the Freedom 8 is a meaningful step forward. The current Fagor 8070 OL control brings a far larger 17 inch color LCD, faster processing, and modern connectivity that streamlines nested-program transfer and on-machine editing. Laser-calibrated X and Y axes and the high-torque Fagor servo package improve positioning accuracy and surface finish over the older drive systems, while the ISO 30 Hiteco Powertech 300 spindle delivers more usable cutting power across wood, composite, and light aluminum than the smaller spindles found on prior entry-level builds. Paired with a true 8-position automatic tool changer and an automatic tool height sensor, this generation cuts setup time and keeps the spindle in the cut longer. For a shop stepping up from an older Freedom or a manual route, this is a newer, better-equipped machine at a used-equipment price.
