The Haas HSF-450 is an induction shrink fit machine built to bring high-accuracy toolholder assembly into the tool room rather than send it out to a service house. This 2025 unit heats and releases shrink fit holders through a 2.205 inch (56 mm) induction head, supporting ISO 30, 40 and 50 plus HSK63A holders and accepting HSK63A, CT40, CT50, BT30, BT40, BT50 and SK40/SK50 DIN 69871 tapers, with a maximum clamping range of 1.260 inches (32 mm) in diameter. The heat cycle runs 4 to 14 seconds and is followed by an initial air-cool and an automatic liquid-cool stage fed by a 30 liter coolant tank, with a 30 second cooling time, so a holder goes from cold to clamped and back to handling temperature inside about a minute. Haas builds the HSF-450 as the only shrink fit station in its line, so the useful comparison is against what most shops run instead. Set against ER collet chucks and hydraulic milling chucks, a shrink fit assembly removes the intermediate gripping element entirely - the holder clamps the shank directly, which cuts runout, raises torsional stiffness, and slims the nose profile enough to reach into pockets a milling chuck body cannot enter. Set against the hot-air and open-flame shrink rigs still found in older tool rooms, induction heating drives energy into the holder nose alone rather than soaking the whole assembly, which is why the cycle is measured in seconds instead of minutes and why holder life holds up under repeated heating. The automatic liquid-cool stage matters for the same reason: a holder left to cool on a bench distorts unpredictably, while a controlled cool returns it to a known geometry every cycle.
