2013 Northwood 138UFC-FabCenter CNC Stone Router and Saw

The Northwood 138UFC FabCenter, sold by Northwood as the SW-138UFC, is a combination CNC stone router and saw built to take a countertop from raw slab to finished edge inside one machine. Its 156" x 96" (13' x 8') work area swallows a full slab, so an operator can nest an entire kitchen worth of tops in a single setup instead of splitting the job across a bridge saw and a separate router. Cutting is handled by a High-Torque SmartSaw blade module that does the work of a standalone bridge saw, while a 15 kW Extreme Duty Spindle drives the routing, drilling, profiling, grinding, and polishing passes - including lettering, inlay, and ageing work on granite, quartz, and other stone. The machine sits on an extremely rigid structure with an integral steel worktable set up for pod hold-down configurations, and the whole platform is derived from Northwood's SW138 stone router.

That SW138 heritage is exactly what makes the 138UFC the upgrade. A plain SW138 stone router is a superb machining platform, but it is only half a countertop shop - every slab still has to be rough-cut on a separate bridge saw, then craned or carted to the router, squared up, and re-fixtured before a single edge gets profiled. The 138UFC folds the saw into the same machine and the same program: the SmartSaw module replaces the bridge saw outright, so the slab is located once and stays located through cutting, milling, and finishing. That removes an entire material handling step, a second machine footprint, and the setup error that creeps in every time a heavy slab changes tables. For a fabricator weighing a router-only machine against this one, the FabCenter is not a faster SW138 - it is a different production model, one where a full digital job runs start to finish without the slab ever moving.

About This Machine

Cut slabs in the morning and be running edgework before lunch - the 138UFC FabCenter puts a High-Torque SmartSaw and a 15 kW Extreme Duty Spindle over one 156" x 96" table, so a job never has to leave the machine to get finished. Northwood built this as the one-machine countertop shop, and it still does the whole sequence - saw, rout, drill, profile, grind, polish - on a single digital setup.
