The C.R. Onsrud 121M12DA M Series is an American-built 5' x 10' CNC router with a reputation for steady, dependable nested-based production that has made it a staple in cabinet, millwork, furniture, and panel processing shops. This 2022 machine uses a dual supported gantry driven on both sides by independent servo motors and drives for accuracy and rigidity over a fixed phenolic high-flow universal vacuum table with three pneumatically actuated vacuum zones and a flow-through spoil board. The Z axis offers 11 inches of stroke with 12 inches of under-bridge clearance, and the model is rated for programmable feed rates up to 2,000 ipm. Cutting is handled by a 12 HP (9 kW) HSK-63F spindle running to 24,000 RPM with a quick-change cartridge design, supported by a 10-position hide-away rack tool changer that retracts below the table, a 9-spindle line-drilling block, programmable air blast, an integrated dust transition hood, and an auto tool length touchpad. Control is a FANUC 0i with Panel-i HMI and network capability. The automation package includes an automated material infeed system with a Southworth 6,000 lb scissor lift, an Onsrud auto pre-labeling system, an automated nested sheet offload with scraper arm and integrated dust extraction, and an integrated conveyor out-feed table. Supporting equipment includes a Becker VTLF 2.500 17.7 HP rotary vane vacuum pump, isolation transformer, air conditioned electronics cabinets, 4-color stack light, handheld barcode reader, Onsrud digital bench-top tool setter, and ten extra HSK-63F tool holders.
Compared with a stand-alone manual-load router of the same 5' x 10' size, this 121M12DA configuration closes the loop on nested-based manufacturing. Sheets are lifted and fed from a full bunk, labeled while the previous sheet is routed, and swept onto the out-feed conveyor with dust pulled away at the transition, so the operator spends the cycle sorting finished parts instead of handling raw panels. The FANUC 0i is a dedicated industrial CNC rather than a PC with a control card, and the dual-drive gantry, hide-away tool rack, and drill block let one machine route, drill, and change tools without manual intervention. For a shop moving from single-sheet loading to automated nesting, this is a meaningful step up in throughput per operator, not just a newer router.
