2008 Mori Seiki NH4000-DCG CNC Horizontal Machining Center with 2-Pallet Changer

The Mori Seiki NH4000 DCG is a dual-pallet CNC horizontal machining center known for the rigidity and thermal stability that made Mori's DCG (Driven at the Center of Gravity) platform a staple in production and contract shops. This 2008 example offers 400 mm (15.7 in) square pallets, X/Y/Z travels of 22 x 22 x 24.8 inches, and an 880 lb pallet load capacity, with full 4th-axis pallet rotation for multi-face machining. It runs a 14,000 RPM CAT-40 spindle rated 25/30 HP, rapid traverse of 1,969 ipm, and a 60-position automatic tool changer (a second 60-tool rack is present but disconnected). The machine is controlled by a Mori Seiki MSX-701 III CNC and is supported by a Daikin spindle oil chiller, a tool presetter, coolant filtration, and a chip conveyor.

Compared with the earlier Mori Seiki SH-403 it succeeded, the NH4000 DCG is a meaningfully better machine, not just a newer one. Mori's DCG drive places twin ballscrews at the center of gravity to cut vibration and improve surface finish and accuracy at higher feeds, while the MSX-701 III control brings faster processing and easier multi-pallet programming than the SH-series controls. The result is tighter parts, better rigidity, and more reliable unattended pallet-to-pallet production than the horizontals it replaced.
