2017 Doosan NHP-4000 CNC Horizontal Machining Center

The Doosan NHP-4000 is a high-productivity CNC horizontal machining center with a reputation for rigidity and pallet-fed uptime that has made it a staple in production job shops and contract-manufacturing environments. This 2017 example is a dual-pallet 4-axis HMC with 400 mm (15.7 in) square pallets, X/Y/Z travels of 22 x 25.2 x 26 inches, and an 882 lb per-pallet load capacity. Motion is driven by a 15,000 RPM, 40 HP Big-Plus CAT-40 spindle with rapid traverse of 2,362 ipm, a 60-tool automatic tool changer, and full 4th-axis continuous pallet rotation for multi-face machining. The machine runs a Fanuc Series 31i-Model B CNC control and is equipped with through-spindle coolant, an LNS chip conveyor, a spindle oil chiller, and a Renishaw spindle probe for in-process setup and inspection.

Compared with the earlier Doosan HP-4000 it replaced, the NHP-4000 is a meaningfully better machine, not just a newer one. The NHP generation raises spindle speed to 15,000 RPM, adds the faster, more capable Fanuc 31i-Model B control in place of the prior 18i/0i-class Fanuc, and delivers quicker rapids and tool changes for shorter cycle times. Doosan also stiffened the structure and improved thermal management on the NHP platform for better accuracy over long unattended runs. For a buyer, that means the throughput and reliability of a current-generation horizontal at used-machine value.
