2017 Haas ST-40 CNC Lathe

The 2017 Haas ST-40 offers heavy-duty capability with a 34.5-inch maximum swing and 25.5-inch turning diameter on a 44-inch center distance. Powered by a 40 HP vector spindle (upgradeable to 55 HP), reaching 2,400 RPM via a 2-speed gearbox and A2-8 nose, it handles bar work up to 4 inches through a 15-inch hydraulic chuck. The machine’s bolt-on 12-station turret, 17-inch X-axis and 44-inch Z-axis travels support rapid 710 IPM rapids. Equipped with programmable MT5 tailstock, tool presetter, rigid tapping, and belt-type chip conveyor, this lathe is built for demanding diameters. The included coolant (upgraded to 1,000 PSI) and expanded tool pocket make deep hole machining and extended tools possible—all controlled via advanced Haas NextGen control.

Compared to smaller ST-20 or ST-30 models, the ST-40 offers far greater swing, bar throughput, and torque reserve. While most bench-size Haas lathes cap at 3 HP spindle power or 2.5" bar capacity, the ST-40 matches or exceeds older CNC turning centers for production throughput, making it ideal for aerospace shafts, hydraulic components, and other large-part machining.
