2008 Mori Seiki DuraTurn 2050 CNC Lathe

The 2008 Mori Seiki DuraTurn 2050 is the “no-waste” two-axis lathe Mori conceived for shops that want premium cut quality minus premium complexity. A single-piece ribbed casting carries a 27.6-inch swing and a 10-inch hydraulic chuck, yet the footprint stays under nine feet square, so it fits where larger SL or NL machines cannot. Its A2-6 spindle nose drives a 3 500 RPM cartridge through 20 horsepower, while a 3.15-inch bore passes 2.5-inch bar to minimise prep and maximise rigidity. The twelve-station turret indexes in 0.2 seconds and feeds X at 944 IPM and Z at 944 IPM, making short work of batch cycles. Startup is equally swift thanks to the MSC-501 (Fanuc-based) control whose conversational screens slash G-code time and backplot errors.

Compared with the earlier DuraTurn 2040—whose turning length stalls at roughly 16 inches, spindle peaks at 3 000 RPM and motor tops out near 15 horsepower—the 2050 stretches Z-stroke to 20 inches, spins 500 RPM faster and adds five extra horsepower, yet preserves the same 8.5-inch X travel and A2-6 nose. In short, the 2050 is the higher-throughput, longer-part evolution, while the 2040 remains the economical alternative for shorter work.
