2008 Doosan Puma 240MSB CNC Lathe

The 2008 Doosan Puma 240 MSB is an 8-inch-chuck, two-spindle turning centre that swings 21.7 inch over the bed, machines 11.4 inch diameters and reaches 19.7 inch between spindles inside a compact 118-inch-long cell. Its A2-6 main spindle holds 2.67-inch bar through a 2.99-inch bore and accelerates to 5 000 RPM with 25-horsepower vector drive, while a 7.5-horsepower sub-spindle spins 6 000 RPM for back-working. Twelve live-tool stations mill, drill and tap at 5 000 RPM under C-axis control to 0.001 degree, and B-axis stroke of 22.8 inch lets the sub-spindle pull away for pinch-turn or part-off. Rapid traverses hit 945 IPM X and 1 181 IPM Z, feeding a cast-iron box-way slide that dampens chatter on tough steels. Coolant, chip conveyor, LNS bar-feed, parts catcher and conveyor produce unmanned shifts, while a 1 000-program Fanuc 18i-TB brain keeps set-ups evergreen.

Compared with Doosan’s Puma 240 MB single-spindle model, the MSB doubles throughput by adding a 6 000 RPM sub-spindle and live-tool turret, boosts main speed to 5 000 RPM (vs 4 500 RPM), and stretches Z stroke to 22.8 inch (vs 20 inch) – all on the same 8-inch chuck and 2.5-inch bar platform – so shops graduate from op-one-only work to full two-end completion without enlarging the footprint.
