2018 Haas TL-1 Toolroom CNC Lathe

The 2018 Haas TL-1 is a manual-friendly CNC lathe that slides smoothly from prototype sketch to finished shaft: a 20-inch swing, 30-inch between-centres envelope, and 16-inch cutting diameter sit under a belt-driven A2-5 spindle turning 1 800 RPM, powered by a 10-horsepower vector motor delivering 108 foot-pounds at 355 RPM. Hand wheels, conversational IPS cycles and the Next-Gen control let traditional machinists rough steel in manual mode, then transition into full CNC at 450 IPM rapids and 0.001-inch commands. The 8-inch 3-jaw chuck grips 2-inch bar through a 2.30-inch bore, while the MT4 tailstock supports long shafts. A two-station quick-change tool post is standard, but users often add the plug-and-play eight-station turret for multi-op work.

Compared with Haas’s TL-2 – identical swing but a 48-inch Z-stroke and otherwise standard specs – the TL-1 keeps the same spindle, power and control yet shortens the bed, making it the nimble choice for job shops where floor space is dear while still accepting identical chucks, posts and canned cycles.
