The Mazak M5N is a heavy-duty CNC big-bore lathe from Mazak's long-running M-series, a platform with a reputation for rigid, dependable turning that made it a fixture in oilfield, energy, and heavy shaft shops. This 2006 machine swings 24 in over the bed and 13 in over the cross slide, turns up to 22.8 in diameter, and carries 82 in between centers with a tailstock for long workpieces. The A2-15 spindle nose and 7.1 in through-bore handle pipe, tube, and bar work that smaller lathes cannot pass, driven by a 30 HP main motor to 1,000 RPM for the low-speed, high-torque cuts heavy parts demand. The Mazatrol 640T control offers conversational programming alongside the EIA option package for G-code work, with threading start point and re-threading functions for repair work on existing threads, and the 8-station disk turret carries 6 boring bar positions for deep internal work. A transformer is included with the machine.
Compared with the smaller Mazak M-4 in the same M-series line, the M5N steps up in swing, spindle bore, and between-centers capacity, opening the envelope to the long, large-diameter parts that drive premium hourly rates in heavy turning. Against the manual engine lathes that still do much of this work, the Mazatrol control runs programmed threading, turning, and boring cycles with repeatability no manual operator can match - and the re-threading function makes the M5N a natural fit for oilfield repair, where picking up an existing thread is daily business. For a shop quoting big-bore work, this M5N brings serious capacity in a proven package.
