The 2019 Haas ST-20Y is a Y-axis turning center built for done-in-one part production. Its 5,000 RPM main spindle pairs with a 6,000 RPM sub-spindle for back-side work, while 6,000 RPM live tooling with full C-axis and a 24-station turret handle milling, drilling, and cross-work without a second operation. With 2 inch bar capacity, an 8.3 inch chuck on an A2-6 spindle nose, a Haas bar feeder, high-pressure coolant, a parts catcher, and the NextGen Haas control with Visual Parts Programming, 32 GB of program memory, and wireless networking, this machine is set up for lights-out bar work from the start.
Compared with the standard Haas ST-20, this ST-20Y adds the Y-axis for off-center milling and keyway work that a plain two-axis lathe simply cannot do, along with live tooling and C-axis that the base machine lacks. The main spindle runs 5,000 RPM against the standard ST-20 4,000 RPM unit, the live tooling is upgraded from the 4,000 RPM standard to 6,000 RPM, and the installed sub-spindle takes it a step beyond the factory ST-20Y configuration, letting one machine pick off, finish, and drop complete parts. For a shop running bar work, it replaces two setups with one button push.
