2012 Okuma Space Turn LB4000EX CNC Lathe

The Okuma LB4000EX is a 2-axis CNC turning center with a reputation for rigidity and long-run dimensional stability that has made the LB series a staple in production job shops and high-mix manufacturing environments. This 2012 example is built on Okuma's slant box bed construction and offers a generous work envelope: 26.38" swing over the bed, an 18.90" (480 mm) maximum turning diameter, and up to roughly 59" (1,500 mm) between centers for long shaft and chucked work. The main spindle turns to 4,200 RPM through a JIS A2-8 spindle nose with a 3.58" (91 mm) bore and a large 5.51" (140 mm) front bearing ID, driven by a 40 HP integral PREX motor for strong low-end torque and stable heavy cutting. Tooling is handled by a 12-station V12 turret, while rapid traverse rates of 984 IPM on X and 1,181 IPM on Z keep non-cut time low. The machine is equipped with a 10" chuck, an NC-programmable tailstock, a tool presetter, and a chip conveyor, and it is run by the Okuma OSP-P200L CNC with a full-color touchscreen operation panel. Okuma's Thermo-Friendly Concept thermal management is integral to the design, holding size through temperature swings without extensive warm-up.

Compared to the earlier Okuma Space Turn LB4000 it replaced, the LB4000EX is a meaningfully better machine, not just a newer one. The previous-generation LB4000 relied on an older OSP-U100L-class control and a belt and gear-driven spindle; the EX moves to Okuma's integral PREX spindle motor, eliminating the belts and gears that introduce vibration and thermal drift, for cleaner surface finishes and more consistent accuracy. The EX also introduced the Thermo-Friendly Concept for superior dimensional stability, a stiffer optimized slant box bed, higher spindle power and torque, and faster axis rapids that Okuma rates at roughly 20 percent shorter cycle times than the prior machine. Paired with the modern OSP-P200L control and its intelligent machining apps, this LB4000EX delivers the ruggedness the LB name is known for with a real step up in speed, finish, and repeatability - a strong buy for a shop that wants proven Okuma turning capacity at a used-machine value.

About This Machine

Take on the big shafts and heavy chucked work your current lathe cannot touch - the LB4000EX swings 26.38" over the bed and turns parts up to 59" between centers with room to spare. Built on Okuma's rugged slant box bed and thermally stable Thermo-Friendly design, this is a field-proven turning center you can drop onto your floor and trust to hold size shift after shift.
