2014 DMC DL-40L CNC Lathe

The DMC DL-40L is a heavy-duty 2-axis CNC turning center built for large-diameter, long-length work in tough material. With 29.5 inches of swing, 20.4 inches of maximum turning diameter, 65.2 inches of machining length, and a 4.6 inch bar capacity, it sits in the class of machine a shop buys when its parts have outgrown a standard chucker but a vertical turning center would be more machine than the work actually needs. Thirty horsepower geared against a 2,000 RPM top speed is a deliberate trade, favoring torque for heavy roughing in carbon and alloy steel over spindle speed the material would never use anyway. This unit runs a Fanuc 0i-TD control and comes equipped with an 18 inch hydraulic chuck, a hydraulic tailstock, and a chip conveyor with coolant.

The L in DL-40L is the long-bed designation, and set against a standard DL-40 that is the whole reason to choose this machine. A base DL-40 carries the same swing and the same chuck but runs a substantially shorter bed, so shaft work reaches the tailstock long before the job is done. The added bed length on the L lets a shop hold long parts properly between centers rather than turning them in two setups, and two setups is precisely where concentricity error creeps into the kind of part this machine exists to produce. It is a straight 2-axis lathe with no live tooling and no sub-spindle, and for heavy turning that simplicity works in its favor - fewer systems to maintain and a rigid saddle carrying the cut.
