2007 Okuma Multus-B300-W B-Axis CNC Mill-Turn Machine with Sub-Spindle & LNS Bar Feeder

The Okuma Multus-B300-W is a B-axis multitasking turn-mill center built to consolidate lathe, machining-center and part-handling work into a single setup. It pairs a main spindle on an A2-6 nose turning to 3,800 rpm with a full-contouring C-axis and an opposed sub-spindle that takes the part directly from the main spindle for back-end work, so a bar can go in raw and come out finished. Cutting is handled by an H1 dual-function B-axis milling head running Coromant Capto C6 tooling out of a 40-station automatic tool changer, with Y-axis travel for off-center milling, drilling and tapping. Capacity runs to 24.80 inches maximum machining diameter and 35.43 inches maximum machining length in the 8 to 10 inch chuck class. This unit is equipped with a high pressure coolant pump, chip conveyor, tool setter, collet chucks and an LNS bar feeder, and is controlled by the Okuma OSP-P200L.

Set against a conventional Okuma LB-series turning center of the same chuck class, the Multus-B300-W is a fundamentally different proposition. An LB300 gives you a turret, live tooling on a fixed axis and a single spindle - excellent at turning, but every prismatic feature that is not on the turning axis means a second setup on a mill. The B300-W replaces the turret with a tilting B-axis head on Capto C6, which means the tool can approach at any angle in a 225-degree arc rather than only perpendicular to the work, and it swaps the tailstock for a driven sub-spindle that indexes and holds so the part never leaves the machine. The 40-station ATC also carries far more tooling than a 12-station lathe turret, so a family of parts can live in the machine at once instead of being tooled up one job at a time.

About This Machine

One machine, one setup, finished parts off the sub-spindle - the Multus B300-W turns, mills, drills and taps on a full B-axis head with 40 tools on tap and a bar feeder keeping it fed. This is how a shop stops shuttling work between a lathe and a mill and starts sending complete parts straight to inspection.
