2024 Famar Tandem 260 CNC Twin-Spindle Vertical Turning Center

The Famar Tandem 260 is a twin-spindle vertical pick-up turning center built for high-volume production where cycle time and repeatability decide whether a job is profitable. Two independent vertical spindles each carry their own Famar 40 driven-tool turret with 12 VDI 40 stations, indexing in 0.25 seconds and accepting tools to 8.66 in, so the machine can run two operations in parallel or split a part front-to-back without a second machine. Each spindle turns to 5300 RPM on a 4.33 in front bearing with 31.65 hp continuous at S1 100 percent duty, 107.7 lb-ft nominal torque and 144.6 lb-ft peak, and takes a 10.24 in chuck for 9.84 in max turning diameter, 7.09 in nominal turning diameter, 15.75 in max swing and 9.45 in turning length. Driven-tool turret output is 16.76 hp and 64.9 lb-ft at up to 8000/10000 RPM. It is configured as a complete cell: an automation line with 20 x 2 pallet positions and 40 self-centering pallets for parts to 10 kg, 6 to 10 second load and unload, (2) hydraulic lower spindle brakes, (2) in-process measuring devices, (2) Z-axis linear scales, (2) Famar FIT 70 tool discs with 12 attachments, 20 bar / 40 L/min high pressure coolant, a 30 micron paper band filter with 400 L tank, and a closed-chain belt chip conveyor. Rated supply is 480V / 60Hz 3-phase, 60 kW at 85A max.

Against the single-spindle Famar Ergo 260 in the same 260 size class, the Tandem 260 is the step up that changes throughput math, not just the spec sheet. The Ergo 260 works one part at a time on one vertical spindle and one turret; the Tandem 260 doubles that hardware into two independent spindle-and-turret stations inside one footprint and one control, so a shop can either double output on a single operation or finish OP10 and OP20 in one machine and delete an entire transfer, fixture and queue between operations. The Tandem also brings the integrated pallet automation line and 40 self-centering pallets that the Ergo 260 leaves to external handling, puts in-process measuring and Z-axis linear scales on both stations for closed-loop size control, and carries a hydraulic lower spindle brake on each spindle for heavier interrupted cuts. The result is a current-generation twin-station cell that produces like two Ergo-class machines while occupying the floor and drawing the power of one.

About This Machine

Every second a chuck sits empty is margin walking out the door, and the Tandem 260 attacks that head-on with two independent vertical pick-up spindles, each running its own 12-station driven-tool turret while a 40-pallet automation line keeps feeding them parts in six to ten seconds. This is high-volume turning you can put on the floor and trust to hold size shift after shift, and it hands you a complete two-station production cell in the footprint most shops give a single lathe.
