2015 Haas ST-10Y CNC Y-Axis Turning Center

The Haas ST-10Y is a Y-axis turning center from the ST series, a line that earned its place in small-part production shops by keeping setup simple and service predictable. This machine pairs a 6,000 RPM, 15 hp spindle on an A2-5 nose with a 2.31 in spindle bore and 1.75 in bar capacity, so bar-fed and chucked work both run on the same platform. Capacity is 16.5 in maximum part diameter with a 12.0 in maximum cutting diameter and 16.0 in maximum cutting length, worked by travels of 7.9 in X, +/-2.0 in Y, and 16.0 in Z at rapids of 472 ipm in X and Y and 1,200 ipm in Z. The 12-station hybrid turret takes 6 VDI and 6 BOT positions and carries 6,000 RPM live tooling rated at 5 hp, paired with a C-axis for off-center drilling, cross-holes, flats, slots, and keyways in a single chuck. The unit is equipped with a 6.5 in hydraulic power chuck, a manual tailstock with hydraulic quill, an automatic tool presetter, spindle orientation, rigid tapping, a parts catcher, a belt-type chip conveyor, a 30 gallon coolant tank, and a complete BOT10 standard tool kit.

Set against the standard Haas ST-10, the ST-10Y is a different category of machine rather than a trim level. The ST-10 turns and drills on centerline; the ST-10Y adds +/-2.0 in of true Y-axis travel and a 12-station hybrid BOT/VDI turret driving 6,000 RPM live tooling with a C-axis, which moves milled flats, off-center holes, slots, and keyways out of a second operation on a mill and into the same chuck as the turning. That single change removes a fixture, a setup, and a queue from every part that needs both turning and milling. Reaching further back, the SL-10 generation that the ST series replaced was a centerline turning machine built on an older Haas control and a lighter casting, with no Y-axis path available at all, so a shop running an SL-10 sends prismatic features out or across the floor. The ST-10Y consolidates that work, and it does it with the larger 2.31 in bore and 1.75 in bar capacity that let longer bar stock feed straight through. For a shop buying used, this is the version of the ST-10 worth holding out for.

About This Machine

The job you keep quoting out - a turned part with a milled flat, a cross-hole, and a keyway - comes back in-house the day this ST-10Y lands on your floor, because 2 inches of true Y-axis travel and 6,000 RPM live tooling with C-axis finish it complete in one chuck. It is a straightforward, field-proven Haas platform with a 12-station hybrid BOT/VDI turret and an automatic tool presetter already on it, so you are set up to run complete small-part work from bar stock to finished component.
