2015 Haas DS-30Y CNC Turning Center

The Haas DS-30Y is a dual-spindle CNC turning center built around the straightforward, dependable engineering that has made Haas lathes a staple in job-shop and production environments across North America. This 2015 example is a full turn-mill configuration: a 10" main spindle on an A2-6 nose with a 3.50" bore and 3.00" bar capacity, driven to 4,500 rpm by a 30 hp vector drive, working against a secondary spindle on an A2-5 nose with a 2.00" bore, 2.00" bar capacity, 20 hp and 4,800 rpm. The machine handles workpieces up to 18" in cutting diameter and 23" in cutting length, with 12.5" of X travel, 23.0" of Z travel, and a true Y axis for off-centerline milling, drilling and tapping. A 12-station turret carries live tooling rated to 6,000 rpm with full C-axis contouring, and rapid traverse runs 472 ipm in X and Y and 945 ipm in Z. Equipped with a parts catcher, tool presetter and belt-style chip conveyor, and running the Haas control, this DS-30Y is configured to take a bar or a chucked blank to a finished part in one handling.

Set against the single-spindle Haas SL-30 that preceded this 10" chuck class, and against the non-Y Haas DS-30, the DS-30Y is a categorically more capable machine rather than simply a newer one. The SL-30 turns between a chuck and a tailstock, so every back-side feature - facing, drilling, cross-holes, threading - becomes a second setup on another machine; the DS-30Y replaces the tailstock with a fully programmable secondary spindle that takes the part on the fly and finishes both ends inside a single cycle. Against the standard DS-30, this unit adds the Y axis that moves the turret off centerline, so milled flats, slots and offset holes are cut in position instead of being approximated with C-axis-only tooling or sent out to a mill. Layered on top of that are driven tooling to 6,000 rpm, full C-axis positioning, a 30 hp main spindle and 945 ipm Z rapids, all under the same Haas control your programmers already run. For a shop currently working a turn-then-mill routine across two machines, the DS-30Y removes an entire operation, a fixture and the tolerance stack that comes with re-clamping - which is where the production gain actually shows up.

About This Machine

Every part that comes off the sub-spindle finished is a second operation you never have to schedule, staff or re-fixture again. This 2015 Haas DS-30Y pairs a 10" main spindle, a full Y axis and 6,000-rpm live tooling with the Haas control your team already knows, so your shop can take on complex done-in-one turn-mill work with confidence from day one.
