The Ganesh Cyclone 52 BY2 is a 9-axis CNC turn-mill center with a reputation for done-in-one part completion that has made it a staple in precision, high-mix production and job-shop environments. Built by Ganesh (now Expand Machinery) in its GenTurn Cyclone 52 line, this turning center pairs dual opposed spindles - a main spindle and a sub-spindle, each rated 6,000 RPM and 15 HP - with a 12-tool B-axis turret and a total of 36 tool positions, 18 of them driven. Live tooling runs to 2,500 RPM at 5 HP on the primary driven tools, with secondary driven stations to 3,000 RPM, while full Y-axis motion on both tooling systems opens up off-center milling, drilling, and contouring without a second operation. The machine handles up to 2.008" (51 mm) bar stock through an A2-5 spindle nose with Traub TRB-52 collets, feeds rapids of 1,181 IPM (30 m/min), and combines C-axis and Y-axis capability for complete turn-mill work in a single setup.
Compared with the gang-tooled GEN TURN 52-GTS - the 6-axis dual gang-tooled lathe in the same Cyclone 52 family - the BY2 is a substantial step up in milling capability. Where the 52-GTS relies on fixed gang slides and light live tooling, the BY2 adds a 12-tool B-axis turret, full Y-axis on both systems, and 18 driven tool stations, transforming the platform from a fast turning machine into a true multi-axis mill/turn center. That means the BY2 can index, mill, and drill at compound angles and finish complex round-and-prismatic parts complete off both spindles - work the gang-tooled GTS would have to hand off to a second machine. For a shop moving into tighter-tolerance, higher-value done-in-one production, the BY2 is not just a newer machine but a meaningfully more capable one, cutting setups, handling times, and cycle counts on the exact jobs that drive margin.
