2011 Haas ST-30 CNC Lathe

The Haas ST-30 is a high-performance CNC turning center with a reputation for rigidity and dependable, no-nonsense operation that has made it a staple in high-volume production shops. This 2011 machine pairs a 10-inch hydraulic 3-jaw chuck with a 3.0-inch bar capacity and a robust 30 hp main spindle turning up to 3,400 RPM through an A2-6 spindle nose and a generous 3.5-inch spindle bore for larger bar and chucking work. The work envelope handles up to a 15-inch maximum cutting diameter and a 21-inch maximum swing, with 32.5 inches between centers and X and Z travels of 9.4 and 32.5 inches, giving it the reach for both compact chucked parts and longer shafts. A hydraulic tailstock supports shaft turning between centers, while rapid traverse of 945 ipm on both axes keeps cycle times tight and a 12-station turret delivers fast, repeatable tool changes. The intuitive Haas control keeps setups and edits quick even for operators new to the machine, and an included bar feeder makes this ST-30 ready for high-volume, lights-out production straight off the truck.

Compared to the earlier Haas SL-30 it replaced, the ST-30 is a meaningfully stronger machine, not just a newer one. Haas re-engineered the ST Series around a heavier one-piece base casting and a dual-anchored, thermally stabilized spindle, sharply increasing rigidity and holding tighter tolerances through long production runs where the SL-30 was more prone to thermal drift. Larger spindle bearings and a higher-torque 30 hp drive let the ST-30 push heavier cuts in tougher materials than the SL-30 comfortably handled, while faster rapid traverse trims dead time out of every cycle. The machine also runs the current-generation Haas control, with far more program memory and a faster processor than the SL-30 controller, plus improved chip and coolant management around the work zone. For a shop stepping up from an SL-30, that adds up to better surface finishes, more aggressive metal removal, and more parts per shift from the same floor space.
