The DMG Mori NLX2000SY/500 is a CNC turning center with a reputation for rigidity and dependable accuracy that has made the NLX series a staple in production job shops and OEM turning cells. This 2015 SY configuration combines a main spindle, a sub-spindle, Y-axis, C-axis, and live tooling on a single BMT turret, letting it turn, mill, drill, and tap complex parts complete in one setup. The main spindle is rated at 5,000 RPM and 20 HP with a JIS A2-6 nose, an 8 inch chuck, and 2.5 inch (65 mm) bar capacity, while the sub-spindle reaches 6,000 RPM with 15 HP and a 6 inch chuck for back-working. The work envelope includes 36.4 inch swing over bed, 14.4 inch maximum turning diameter, and 20 inch maximum turning length, with X 10.2 / Z 23.2 inch travels, 3.9 inch (+/-2.0 inch) Y-axis travel, and 1,181 ipm rapid traverse on X and Z. The BMT built-in motor turret drives rotary tools to 10,000 RPM at 7.5 HP. Control is the DMG MORI CELOS operating interface. The machine is equipped with an Edge Technologies Rebel V-65 Servo bar feeder, high pressure coolant, chip conveyor, parts catcher, mist collector, and tool presetter, plus spindle liners from 1.0 to 1.75 inch, static tool blocks, and axial and radial live tool blocks.
The NLX2000 replaced the Mori Seiki NL2000SY and earlier SL-series turning centers, and it was engineered as a meaningful step forward rather than a cosmetic refresh. Where the NL2000SY drove its rotary tools through a conventional externally mounted motor, the NLX introduced the BMT built-in motor turret, placing the milling motor inside the turret to cut vibration and heat and to raise rotary tool speed to 10,000 RPM. The NLX bed and turret base were redesigned for higher rigidity and thermal stability, and the CELOS interface with its large touchscreen replaced the older MAPPS panel for faster setup, job management, and program handling. For a buyer, that means stronger milling capability, steadier accuracy over long runs, and a more modern operator experience than any NL-series machine can offer.
