The Okuma Genos L300-MYW is a CNC turn-mill center with a reputation for rigid, dependable turning that has made the GENOS line a staple in job shops and production environments. This 2014 unit, built by Tatung-Okuma in Taiwan to Okuma engineering, pairs a main spindle with an opposing W-axis sub-spindle and a single turret carrying live tooling, Y-axis, and C-axis capability, so parts can be turned, milled, drilled, and tapped on both ends in one setup. The model is rated for an 11.81 inch maximum turning diameter and an 18.11 inch maximum turning length, with a 20 HP main spindle motor. The machine runs an Okuma CNC control and is equipped with a 3-jaw chuck, high pressure coolant, a parts catcher, a tool presetter, and a chip conveyor. The tooling package includes a Su-Matic X-axis live tool, an MD double Z-axis live tool, a Su-Matic double Z-axis main/sub face tool, two Cast single boring holders, a WTO quad static block, and spindle liners from 1.0 to 1.625 inches for bar work.
Compared with the single-spindle GENOS L300E-M and L300E-MY, the L300-MYW adds the W-axis sub-spindle and turns the platform from a two-operation lathe into a done-in-one cell. The L300E-M brings live tooling and C-axis work, and the L300E-MY adds the Y-axis, but both still require the operator to flip parts or move them to a second machine for back-side features. The MYW keeps the same GENOS rigidity and turning envelope while adding part transfer to the sub-spindle for back-working, which reduces handling, helps hold feature relationships between both ends, and frees operators for other work. For shops running complex shafts, fittings, and milled turned parts, that means fewer setups, less work in process, and more finished parts per shift from a single machine.
