The Okuma Genos L300-M is a 2-axis CNC turning center with live tooling and a C-axis, built on the same no-nonsense engineering that has made Okuma lathes a trusted fixture in job shops and production cells for decades. This 2014 unit, built by Tatung-Okuma, rides on a one-piece cast-iron bed with hardened rectangular slideways and hand-scraped headstock and tailstock mounting surfaces for long-term rigidity and thermal stability. The work envelope is rated at 20.47 inch swing over bed, 11.81 inch maximum turning diameter and 17.72 inch maximum turning length, with 20.47 inches of Z-axis travel and rapid traverse rates of 787 ipm in X and 984 ipm in Z. The main spindle carries a JIS A2-8 nose, a 3.15 inch spindle bore and 2.68 inch bar capacity, and runs to 3,000 RPM; a 10 inch chuck is the standard work-holding size for the model, and this machine is currently fitted with a Royal QG65 collet chuck, with a 3-jaw chuck also included. Milling work is handled by a 12-station live-tool turret driven by a PREX motor rated to 4,500 RPM and 9.4 HP, supporting cross drilling, tapping, flats and keyways without a second operation. The machine includes a MT5 tailstock, chip conveyor, parts catcher and tool presetter, and is run by the Okuma OSP control with Ethernet and USB connectivity for simple program transfer.
Compared with Okuma's earlier entry-level lathes such as the ES-L8 and LCS-15, the Genos L300-M brings Okuma's multitasking capability into an affordable, compact footprint. The L300-M pairs a fully integrated C-axis with a 12-station live-tool turret driven by a dedicated PREX milling motor, so parts that once needed a mill or a second setup can be completed in one chucking. Its heavier ribbed cast-iron base, larger A2-8 spindle and current-generation OSP control, which runs Windows-based applications alongside a real-time machine OS, deliver more rigidity, more work-holding range and easier programming than the older machines. For a shop moving up from basic turning, the Genos L300-M is a meaningfully more capable machine that cuts handling, shortens lead times and keeps more high-value work in-house.
