The Mazak QTE-100MSY SG is a compact Y-axis turning center with a second spindle, built on the reliable Quick Turn platform that has made Mazak lathes a staple in job shops and high-mix production cells. This 2025 machine runs the Mazak Mazatrol Smooth CNC control and offers a 27.36 inch maximum swing, 13.39 inch maximum machining diameter, 23.46 inch maximum machining length and 2.05 inch bar work capacity. The 6 inch main spindle is rated to 6,000 RPM with a 15 kW (20 HP) short-time motor rating, and the opposed second spindle carries a 5 inch chuck, also rated to 6,000 RPM, on a W-axis stroke of 23.03 inches. Travels are X 8.46 / Y 3.94 / Z 23.82 inches with rapid traverse rates of 1,181 / 394 / 1,181 inches per minute. A 12-position turret carries rotary tooling rated to 4,500 RPM and 5.5 kW for off-center milling, drilling and tapping, with C-axis and Y-axis contouring. The machine is equipped with an LNS Quick Load Servo 65 bar feeder, chip conveyor, parts catcher and tool presetter for bar-fed, done-in-one production.
Compared with the earlier Mazak Quick Turn Nexus 100-II MSY, the QTE-100MSY SG represents a newer generation of compact Mazak multi-tasking lathes. Where the Nexus-era machines ran Mazatrol Matrix controls, the QTE pairs its Y-axis, second spindle and rotary tooling with the Mazatrol Smooth platform for a faster, more intuitive operator interface and easier part programming. Its 52 mm bar capacity, 6,000 RPM spindles and 30 m/min X and Z rapids are configured for quick cycle times on small and medium bar work, and the combination of Y-axis milling with a full second spindle lets a shop finish both ends of a part without secondary operations. For a shop moving complex small parts into one setup, it is a meaningfully better machine, not just a newer one.
