The Atrump KL-3040 is a 30" x 40" flat-bed CNC lathe from Atrump Machinery's KL series, a line known for simple, dependable construction that has made it a practical fit for job shops, maintenance departments, and general turning work. This 2007 unit is a 2-axis CNC lathe with 30" swing over bed, 16" swing over cross slide, and 40" between centers, built on 13.78" hardened and ground ways. Travels are 11.6" X and 31.5" Z on C5 precision ballscrews, with 180 ipm rapid traverse and up to 120 ipm cutting feed. The D1-8 spindle has a 3-3/8" bore and runs 27 to 2,200 RPM through a 3-range automatic gear shift, driven by a 10 HP spindle motor on 220V, 3-phase, 60 Hz service. Workholding is a 3-jaw manual chuck, and tooling mounts on a tool post, a setup suited to shafts, bushings, sleeves, flanges, and short-run or one-off turned parts. Full guarding rounds out a straightforward machine that is easy to set up and simple to operate.
Compared with a conventional manual engine lathe of the same class, the Atrump KL-3040 replaces handwheel-by-handwheel turning with programmed X and Z motion under CNC control. That shift is designed to let a shop repeat the same part dimensions from one run to the next, cut tapers, radii, and contours without manual compound setups, and store programs for jobs that come back. The 3-3/8" spindle bore and 30" swing give it room for larger-diameter work than a typical toolroom lathe, and because the KL-3040 keeps a flat-bed, engine-lathe style layout, operators who know manual lathes can step onto it quickly.
