The Okuma LB4000 EX II/1500 is a SPACE TURN CNC lathe with a reputation for rigid, thermally stable turning that has made it a staple in job shop, oilfield, and heavy equipment environments. This 2024 unit is the C1500 long-bed configuration with the big bore spindle option, offering a 26.38 inch swing over bed, 18.90 inch maximum turning diameter, 59.06 inch maximum turning length, and 59.84 inch distance between centers. Axis travels are 11.81 inches in X and 62.60 inches in Z, with rapid traverse rates of 984 ipm (X) and 1,181 ipm (Z). The big bore headstock carries a JIS A2-11 spindle nose, a 4.41 inch spindle bore, a 3,000 RPM top speed, and a 50 HP (30 min rating) spindle motor, and the machine is equipped with a 15 inch 3-jaw hydraulic chuck. A 12-station V12 NC turret handles tooling, and a programmable NC tailstock supports long shaft work. Control is the Okuma OSP-P300LA with One-Touch IGF Advanced conversational programming, OSP Suite apps, and ECO Suite Plus energy management. Additional equipment includes an automatic tool presetter, parts catcher, chip conveyor, hydraulic oil cooler, and a 60 kVA multi-tap transformer.
Compared with the original Okuma LB4000 EX, the LB4000 EX II steps up to the OSP-P300LA control platform, replacing the older OSP-P200L with a faster processor, a larger touch-panel display, and the OSP Suite app environment for streamlined setup, scheduling, and machine monitoring. One-Touch IGF Advanced lets operators build turning programs conversationally right at the machine, and ECO Suite Plus adds automated energy-saving functions the earlier generation lacked. The EX II carries forward Okuma's Thermo-Friendly Concept for dimensional stability over long production runs, now paired with the newer control's monitoring tools. For a shop moving up to long-bed, large-diameter turning, the LB4000 EX II/1500 is a meaningfully stronger machine than its predecessor - easier to program, simpler to monitor, and better connected - not just a newer one.
