2020 Haas UMC-500SS CNC Vertical Mill

The 2020 Haas UMC-500SS is a Super-Speed 5-axis vertical machining center engineered to deliver tight tolerances and aggressive cycle times in a compact 24" x 16" x 16" work envelope. Featuring a full simultaneous B-axis (tilt) and C-axis (rotation) on a 15.7" platter, this machine allows complex 3+2 or full 5-axis machining in a single setup. Driven by a 30 HP, 12,000 RPM inline direct-drive spindle, the UMC-500SS is backed by 300 PSI through-spindle coolant, programmable coolant nozzle (P-COOL), and a chip conveyor with filter kit to maintain thermal and chip control during extended cycles. The machine also features Haas’s intuitive WIPS probing system, ensuring fast, precise part setup and in-process inspection.

The 50+1 side-mount tool changer allows tools up to 12" long, weighing 12 lbs, and supports 2.5" diameters with adjacent tools or 5.0" without. Tool-to-tool time averages 1.8 seconds, with chip-to-chip at 2.4 seconds. The tilting B-axis moves from +120° to -35° at speeds up to 50°/sec, with a max torque of 1,854 ft-lbs, while the rotary C-axis offers full 360° rotation and 5 T-slots for flexible workholding. Constructed with rigidity in mind, this machine weighs 11,900 lbs, and fits in a relatively compact 119" x 92" x 101" footprint, ideal for tight shops needing high-precision, multi-face work in aerospace, medical, and energy sectors.
