The 2015 Haas VF-3 is a 20-tool CAT-40 vertical machining centre that slips thirty-inch-class power into a forty-inch X envelope, letting entrepreneurs tackle aerospace brackets and steel mould inserts on the same shift. Travels of 40-inch X, 20-inch Y and 25-inch Z ride heavy box ways for stout rigidity. Flood coolant keeps the table clear, but a factory 300-PSI through-spindle line with labyrinth filter dives coolant straight down the flute for deep-hole drilling and faster pocket clearing. A 20-position umbrella changer swaps cutters in 2.8 seconds, and rapids of 1 000 IPM return to feed in a heartbeat, so cutting time—not tool change time—dominates the cycle.

Set beside Haas’s VF-2 of the same year, the VF-3 stretches X-travel by 10 inches and raises table load from 3 000 pounds to the same 3 000-pound rating but on a larger 48- by 18-inch deck—room for twin vises or a fourth-axis tombstone—while keeping the footprint only 12 inches wider. Both machines share CAT-40 taper, 8 100 RPM spindle and umbrella ATC, yet the VF-3’s heavier 12 500-pound casting soaks up chatter, and its standard through-spindle coolant (an option on the VF-2) slashes drilling cycle times, giving the VF-3 a decisive edge in unattended production.
