The 2016 Haas VF-2SS is a super-speed vertical mill that blends thirty-inch X, sixteen-inch Y and twenty-inch Z travels with an inline twelve-thousand-RPM CT-40 spindle drawing thirty horsepower and swapping tools in one-point-eight seconds through a twenty-four-station side-mount changer. High-speed rapids of one-thousand-four-hundred IPM and cutting feeds to eight-hundred-thirty-three IPM slash cycle times, while vector drive torque holds seventy-five foot-pounds at two-thousand RPM for confident roughing. A thirty-six-inch by fourteen-inch table supports fifteen-hundred-pound workpieces, and the four-to-twenty-four-inch spindle-nose window fits tall fixtures or fourth-axis rotaries already wired at the factory. Chip auger, programmable air blast and high-flow coolant push chips clear; probing with WIPS sets tools and work in one cycle; HSM look-ahead smooths arcs at twenty-four hundred blocks per second.

Compared with Haas’s VF-2 base model – ten-thousand-RPM belt spindle, one-hundred-ten-foot-pound vector, twenty-tool umbrella changer and one-thousand-IPM rapids – the VF-2SS adds a direct-drive twelve-thousand-RPM unit, bumps rapids forty percent, installs a side-mount changer and unlocks high-speed machining plus probing, yet both share the same thirty-inch X envelope, CT-40 taper and fifteen-hundred-pound table so existing fixtures port straight across.
