2018 Tormach PCNC 440 CNC Vertical Mill

The Tormach PCNC 440 is a compact CNC vertical mill designed for prototyping, small-batch production, and educational environments where full-size VMC footprint and power aren't necessary but real CNC capability is. This 2018 unit delivers 10,000 RPM from its 0.75 HP R8 spindle across 10 inches of X travel, 6.25 inches of Y, and 10 inches of Z, with rapid traverse rates of 135 IPM in X/Y and 110 IPM in Z. An 8-pocket automatic tool changer keeps cycle times tight, and the included Tormach PathPilot control — upgraded with a new computer unit and monitor — provides an intuitive, Linux-based interface favored by shops and schools alike. This package also includes Saunders fixture plate and two Saunders low-profile vises for workholding, a work probe for on-machine part setup, fly cutter, multiple TTS tool holders, flood coolant, a custom enclosure, and LED work lights — making it a genuinely turnkey setup ready to run.

The PCNC 440 replaced the earlier Tormach PCNC 770 as Tormach's entry-level mill, offering a smaller footprint and lower price point while retaining the same TTS tooling ecosystem and PathPilot control platform. Where the 770 targeted shops needing larger table capacity and more Y-axis travel, the 440 was purpose-built for tight spaces and lighter-duty applications — prototyping, fixture work, engraving, and educational labs.
