2020 Southwestern Industries TRAK VMC5 CNC Vertical Machining Center

The 2020 Southwestern Industries TRAK VMC5 is a full-size enclosed CNC vertical machining center designed for shops that need real production capability without sacrificing the hands-on simplicity TRAK machines are known for. Built around a 15 HP CAT 40 spindle turning up to 8,000 RPM, the VMC5 delivers the rigidity and power to handle steel, stainless, and aluminum with confidence. Travels of 20" x 16" x 20" and a generous 27.56" x 15.75" table give operators room to work on larger fixtures and multi-part setups. The ProtoTRAK RMX CNC control keeps programming conversational and fast — no G-code expertise required — while a 16-tool carousel automatic tool changer keeps multi-operation jobs moving without manual intervention.

The VMC5 represents a significant step up from the smaller TRAK VMC2 in the Southwestern Industries lineup. Where the VMC2 tops out at 14" x 12" x 17" travels with a 3 HP BT30 spindle, the VMC5 nearly doubles the work envelope to 20" x 16" x 20" and jumps to a 15 HP CAT 40 spindle — a major upgrade in both rigidity and material removal rate. The VMC5 also features a fully enclosed machining area with interlocked doors, heavier base castings for improved vibration dampening, and the upgraded ProtoTRAK RMX control with expanded memory and networking capabilities over the base ProtoTRAK system found on smaller TRAK models.
