The 2015 Haas VF-3SS is the Super-Speed variant of Haas's mid-size VF-3 vertical machining center, configured here with 40 inches of X-axis travel, 20 inches of Y, 25 inches of Z, a 12,000-RPM BT40 inline spindle driven by a 30 HP motor, a 40+1 side-mount automatic tool changer, and an integrated Midaco pallet changer for cycle-time-tight production runs across a fixturing pair. Optioned with the Wireless Intuitive Probing System for in-process measurement, programmable coolant nozzle, through-spindle coolant prep, 4th-axis drive and wiring, BT-style tool changer grippers, an early power-failure detection module, lifting provisions, a 55-gallon coolant tank, and the Haas Next Generation Control with high-speed machining and rigid tapping enabled, this VF-3SS is set up to run aluminum, plastics, and light-cut prototype work without major retrofit cost.
Compared to the older standard-speed Haas VF-3, the SS (Super-Speed) variant brings the 12,000-RPM inline spindle and 1,400 IPM rapid traverses — meaningful upgrades over the older 8,100-RPM gear-driven spindle and 710 IPM rapids on the base VF-3. Layered on top, the integrated Midaco pallet changer is a real production force-multiplier: a buyer can stage the next part on Pallet B while Pallet A is cutting, instead of paying for setup time after every cycle. With the WIPS probe and 4th-axis prep already installed, this 2015 build skips the typical six-figure option-pack add-on cost a comparably equipped new VF-3SS carries today.
