2014 Matsuura LX-160 PC42 5-Axis CNC Vertical Machining Center

This 2014 Matsuura LX-160 PC42 is a high-precision 5-axis linear-motor machining center built around 19.68" of X-axis travel, 9.84" of Y-axis travel, and 11.81" of Z-axis travel, with a 6.3" diameter by 7.87" high workpiece envelope when running through the pallet system. The HSK-E40 46,000 RPM linear-motor spindle - replaced new by Matsuura in November 2025 - delivers high-speed precision machining for micro tools and aerospace, medical, and die/mold parts, all driven by a Fanuc 30iB CNC control with the Matsuura High Speed / High Precision 5-Axis function and CAMPath TruePath software. The included 42-pallet linear pallet system, 338-station Tool Hive, Renishaw OMP400 in-process probe, and Blum Laser Control NANO NT tool detection make this configuration ready for true lights-out micromachining.

Compared to the older Matsuura MX-330 PC10 ball-screw 5-axis machine in the same small-part precision class, the LX-160 PC42 swaps ball-screw drives for true linear motors across X, Y, and Z - eliminating backlash, lifting peak acceleration, and holding tighter positioning during micro-tool work. The 42-pallet linear pallet system and 338-station Tool Hive expand unattended capacity far beyond the smaller 10-pallet pool and conventional ATC of the prior-generation 5-axis production cell, opening the door to genuinely lights-out multi-day production runs without operator intervention.
