2014 Mazak VCN Compact 5X CNC 5-Axis Vertical Machining Center

The 2014 Mazak VCN Compact 5X is a compact 5-axis CNC vertical machining center built around a 12,000 RPM CAT 40 Big-Plus direct-drive spindle and Mazak's Mazatrol Matrix 2 control, giving a shop genuine simultaneous 5-axis capability in a footprint that fits where a fourth-axis VMC used to live. Travels measure 19.69 inches X, 16.93 inches Y, and 20.08 inches Z over a 25.6 by 15.7 inch trunnion table with a 661 pound load capacity, and a built-in tilt/rotary trunnion (100 RPM rotary, 75 RPM tilt) handles complex multi-face work in a single setup. The 25 HP direct-drive spindle and 30-tool automatic tool changer round out a small-envelope 5-axis platform that is comfortable on aluminum, steel, titanium, and most aerospace and medical part programs.

Compared to Mazak's older Variaxis 500 series 5-axis platform, the VCN Compact 5X tightens the working envelope into a smaller floor footprint and pairs it with the newer Mazatrol Matrix 2 control, which adds Mazak Voice Advisor, faster block processing, smoother surface finish on 5-axis tool paths, and a more capable conversational programming environment than the prior Matrix Nexus and earlier Fusion 640M controls. For shops that want true simultaneous 5-axis work but cannot give up the floor space of a larger Variaxis, the Compact 5X is the more practical answer with the modern control set.
