2018 Haas VM-6 4-Axis CNC Vertical Machining Center

The Haas VM-6 is a large-frame, 40-taper CNC vertical machining center from Haas's Vertical Mold (VM) series, with a reputation for the rigidity and thermal stability mold makers and tool-and-die shops depend on. This 2018 machine delivers 64 x 32 x 30 inch (X/Y/Z) travels over a 64 x 28 inch multi-fixturing T-slot table rated to 4,000 lb, driven by a 12,000-RPM inline direct-drive CT40 spindle with a 30 HP vector drive and 75 ft-lb of torque. It is configured with a 30-station side-mount tool changer, a built-in Haas HRT-100 4th-axis rotary table, thru-spindle coolant, programmable coolant (P-Cool), WIPS wireless probing, and an automatic chip auger, all running on the Haas high-speed control with full look-ahead, rigid tapping, Ethernet, USB, and user-definable macros. Rapid traverse reaches 600 ipm with cutting feeds to 500 ipm.

Compared to Haas's general-purpose VF-6, the VM-6 is purpose-built for mold and die work: it adds a specially designed multi-fixturing table with T-slots in both the X and Y directions plus precision dowel-pin bores, tighter positioning accuracy, and the thermal stability and rigidity high-precision cavity work demands - capabilities the standard VF-series table and configuration do not match. The inline direct-drive spindle also delivers finer surface finishes on hardened tool steels than a belt-driven equivalent. For a shop producing molds, electrodes, and tight-tolerance tooling, the VM-6 is a meaningfully more capable platform than a comparably sized general-purpose VMC.
