2006 DMG Mori DMU 50 eVo linear CNC 5-Axis Vertical Machining Center

The DMG Mori DMU 50 eVo linear is a 5-axis universal vertical machining center built on the Deckel Maho gantry frame, a design that earned its reputation in mold, medical, and precision job shop environments for holding accuracy through long unattended runs. Linear drives in the X and Y axes give the machine its dynamics, working across travels of 19.7 x 17.7 x 15.7 inch (500 x 450 x 400 mm) over a 2-axis NC swivel rotary table that delivers true 5-axis simultaneous and 5-sided machining in a single setup. The 18,000 RPM HSK-A63 spindle is fed by high pressure through-spindle coolant and served by a 30-position tool magazine, while the Heidenhain iTNC 530 control handles the 5-axis kinematics with the tilted-plane and cycle programming Heidenhain users already know. A GMN high-speed spindle attachment and workpiece probing round out the configuration for fine-detail finishing and in-process setup verification.

Set against the earlier DMU 50 V and DMU 50 eVolution, the eVo linear is a different class of machine. Where the DMU 50 V ran ball screw drives on a 3-axis base with an add-on rotary, the eVo linear was engineered around a gantry structure with linear motors in X and Y - cutting acceleration and traverse times the V generation could not approach, and removing the backlash and wear path inherent to a ball screw. Tool capacity moved up to 30 positions for longer unattended cycles, and the integrated 2-axis NC swivel rotary table replaced bolt-on 4th and 5th axis workarounds with a factory-engineered kinematic chain the iTNC 530 drives directly, which is what makes reliable single-setup 5-axis work practical rather than theoretical. For a shop stepping up from a 3-axis VMC or an older DMU 50 V, this is a real capability jump, not a model-year refresh.
