2018 Haas UMC-750 CNC Vertical Machining Center

The Haas UMC-750 is a 5-axis vertical machining center with a reputation for straightforward operation and dependable uptime that has made it a fixture in job shops, aerospace subcontractors, and medical component production. This 2018 machine pairs X 30 / Y 20 / Z 20 inch travels with an integrated dual-axis trunnion table carrying a 500 mm (19.7 inch) platter, giving B-axis tilt and continuous 360-degree C-axis rotation for full five-sided machining in a single setup. Power comes from an inline direct-drive 40-taper spindle rated at 8,100 RPM and a 30 HP vector drive, with a 40+1 side-mount tool changer keeping long tool lists resident at the machine and a 660 lb table load rating for substantial fixtures. The Haas Next Generation Control runs the machine through a 17.5 inch color LCD with the Visual Programming System for at-machine conversational programming, and Haas 5-axis software - Dynamic Work Offsets and Tool Center Point Control - removes most of the setup math that normally slows simultaneous 5-axis work.

The 2018 UMC-750 is a meaningful step up from the way Haas shops used to get to five axes: bolting a TR160 or TRT160 trunnion onto a VF-2SS or VF-3 vertical, which cost Y-axis travel, buried the table under fixture stack-up, and left the operator to fight work offsets by hand. It is also a clear improvement on the earlier 2013-2015 UMC-750 units still on the used market, which ran the older Haas classic control. The Next Generation Control brings a faster processor, high-speed look-ahead for smoother 5-axis surface finishes, a full-color interface with on-screen tool and work offset graphics, Ethernet and USB program transfer, and native support for Dynamic Work Offsets and TCPC rather than the workaround macros earlier machines relied on. The purpose-built trunnion also sits inside the casting rather than on top of the table, so the rotary axes are rigid, repeatable, and fully inside the work envelope instead of consuming it. For a shop moving into 5-axis or replacing an aging trunnion setup, this is the newer generation machine with the modern control and the modern software - at used-machine pricing.
