The 2024 Haas VF-4SS is a Super-Speed CNC vertical machining center built on the platform that made Haas a staple of high-mix production shops, and this unit is configured for full 5-axis work with a Haas TRT210 tilting 2-axis trunnion rotary table. It carries 50 x 20 x 25 inch (1270 x 508 x 635 mm) X/Y/Z travels over a 52 x 19.5 inch table with five 16 mm T-slots, and a 15,000-rpm HSK-A63 inline direct-drive spindle rated at 30 hp. Rapids run 1,400 ipm on all three linear axes with a maximum cutting feed of 833 ipm, and tool handling is managed by a high-speed 70+1 side-mount tool changer in HSK-A63 taper. The machine runs the Haas Next Generation Control with a touchscreen interface, 1 GB of program memory, Dynamic Work Offsets and Tool Center Point Control for true simultaneous 5-axis positioning, High-Speed Machining, rigid tapping, user-definable macros, and Ethernet, WiFi, and HaasConnect remote monitoring. Coolant and chip handling are equally well specified: 1,000 psi through-spindle coolant, high-pressure flood coolant, a programmable coolant nozzle, a 95-gallon coolant tank, an auxiliary coolant filter, and a quad-auger chip removal system feeding a chip conveyor. A wireless intuitive probing system, automatic door, through-tool air blast, and automatic air gun round out the configuration.
Against the standard Haas VF-4 it replaces, the VF-4SS is a materially faster machine rather than simply a newer one. The VF-4 tops out at 8,100 rpm; this VF-4SS spins to 15,000 rpm on an HSK-A63 taper, opening up small-diameter, high-feed cutting the VF-4 cannot reach. Rapid traverse climbs from 1,000 ipm on the VF-4 to 1,400 ipm here, and maximum cutting feed rises from 650 ipm to 833 ipm, cutting air-cut and repositioning time on every part. Tool changes are the bigger jump: the VF-4 uses a 20-pocket carousel changer averaging 4.20 seconds tool-to-tool, while the Super-Speed platform uses a side-mount changer that averages 1.80 seconds, and this unit expands capacity to 70+1 pockets for long unattended runs and multi-family setups. Add the TRT210 trunnion with Dynamic Work Offsets and Tool Center Point Control, which the base VF-4 has no drive or wiring for, and the practical difference is whole-part machining in one setup instead of three: shorter cycles, fewer fixtures, and tighter true position between features.
