The Hurco VMX64i is a large-envelope 3-axis CNC vertical machining center built on the straightforward, dependable platform that made the VMX line a staple in job shops and production machining departments. This 2018 example offers travels of 64.02 x 34.02 x 30 inches over a 65.98 x 35 inch table rated to 6,000 lb, giving it the reach for long fixture plates, multi-part setups, and single large workpieces that will not fit a mid-size VMC. Power comes from a 12,000 RPM CAT 40 spindle with a 24 HP peak motor, rapid traverse of 709 IPM in X and Y and 530 IPM in Z, and a maximum programmable feedrate of 530 IPM. A 30-station automatic tool changer handles tooling up to 3.15 inches in diameter. The machine runs Hurco's WinMax control, which pairs conversational programming with industry-standard NC input, and is equipped with rigid tapping, thru-spindle coolant, a Barnes chip conveyor system, a spindle chiller, and dual mist collectors.
Against the standard Hurco VMX64 it evolved from, the VMX64i carries the same 64.02 x 34.02 x 30 inch envelope, the same 65.98 x 35 inch 6,000 lb table, and the same 709/709/530 IPM rapids, then adds where it matters. Hurco publishes the VMX64i with a 12,000 RPM CAT 40 spindle and builds it substantially heavier - 32,187 lb against the VMX64's 30,203 lb. That additional 2,000 lb of iron sits under an unchanged footprint and the same 24 HP peak spindle rating, so the added mass goes into damping rather than into a physically bigger machine, which is what a 64 inch X axis needs when the cut is at the far end of its travel. Shops stepping up from the VMX42i gain more still: that machine covers 42.01 x 24.02 x 24.02 inches on a 50 x 24.02 inch table rated to 3,850 lb, so the VMX64i adds 22 inches of X, 10 inches of Y, 6 inches of Z, and 2,150 lb of table capacity while running the identical 12,000 RPM CAT 40 spindle and 30-station changer. The result is a bigger, heavier, better-supported machine that takes the same tooling and the same programs already running on your floor.
