2002 Okuma MC-V3016 CNC Vertical Machining Center

The Okuma MC-V3016 is a 3-axis CNC vertical machining center from a builder with a reputation for machine tools that stay in production for decades, which is why Okuma verticals remain a staple in job shops and contract manufacturing environments long after their build year. This 2002 example is a conventional-layout vertical machining center with a T-slotted work table, a fully enclosed work zone with coolant containment, and a side-mount automatic tool changer driven by Okuma's cam-type ATC mechanism. It runs on Okuma's OSP control, the CNC that Okuma designs and builds in-house rather than sourcing from an outside control supplier, which is a large part of why these machines are known for long service life and straightforward diagnostics. Machine power requirements are confirmed from the unit's data plate at 220 volts, 3-phase, 60 Hz, with a rated capacity of 21.76 kVA and a full load current of 57.1 amps. The machine was supplied through Okuma America Corporation in Charlotte, North Carolina, and carries its original Okuma machine-type and serial plate.

Compared with the earlier Okuma MC-4VA generation that preceded the MC-V series, the MC-V3016 is a meaningful step forward rather than a simple model refresh. The MC-V platform moved to a later generation of the OSP control, bringing a more modern operator interface, greater program storage, and faster block processing than the OSP controls fitted to the MC-4VA machines - differences an operator feels immediately when running tighter contouring work. The MC-V series also adopted an updated column-and-base casting arrangement and a revised side-mount tool changer, improving both cutting stability under load and tool-change reliability across long unattended runs. For a shop replacing or supplementing an older Okuma vertical, the MC-V3016 keeps the control philosophy and serviceability that made the earlier machines worth owning while removing most of the limitations that dated them, and it does so on a used-machine timeline rather than a new-machine lead time.

About This Machine

Every job you turn away for lack of spindle time is margin walking out the door, and a 3-axis Okuma sitting on your floor is the fastest way to stop that bleed. Okuma builds both the machine and the OSP control that runs it, so the MC-V3016 gives you a single-source, field-proven platform your operators can be making chips on within a day of the rigger leaving.
