2020 Brother Speedio-R650X2 CNC Vertical Machining Center

The Brother Speedio R650X2 is a compact 4-axis CNC vertical machining center with a reputation for speed, rigidity, and dependable high-volume output that has made the Speedio line a staple in high-mix production and job-shop environments. This 2020 machine pairs a 16,000-RPM BT30 spindle with travels of 25.6 x 15.7 x 17.1 inch (650 x 400 x 435 mm, with an extended Z axis via a 150 mm riser) and moves between cuts at 1,969 IPM (50 m/min) rapid traverse on all three axes. Tool changes run through a 40-tool double-arm automatic tool changer with a 0.9-second tool-to-tool time. For multi-sided production it carries (2) Brother T-200A high-speed 4th-axis rotary tables backed by (2) Martin custom Stallion trunnions for workholding, 1,000 PSI high-pressure through-spindle coolant for deep-hole work, an LNS Turbo MH250 250-micron filtration chip conveyor, and Brother's High Accuracy Mode BII, all running on the Brother CNC-C00 control.

Compared with the earlier Brother Speedio R650X1 it replaces, the R650X2 is a meaningfully more capable machine, not just a newer one. Where the R650X1 offered only 305 mm (12.0 inch) of Z-axis travel and a 14- or 22-tool magazine, this R650X2 extends Z-axis travel to 435 mm (17.1 inch) and steps tool capacity up to 40 tools, so taller fixtures, rotary tables, and more complex multi-operation parts run complete without a magazine reload. It also carries the newer X2-generation Brother control and High Accuracy Mode BII for faster processing and smoother high-speed contouring. For a shop moving up from an R650X1 or an aging 3-axis VMC, that means taller parts, longer tool lists, and true 4th-axis flexibility in the same compact footprint.
