2012 Mazak VTC-800/30SR 5-Axis CNC Vertical Machining Center

The Mazak VTC-800/30SR is a traveling-column 5-axis vertical machining center with a reputation for rigidity and long-part capacity that has made it a staple in mold, aerospace, and large-component job shops. This 2012 machine performs simultaneous 5-axis work through a +/-110 degree B-axis swiveling head paired with a Nikken NC rotary table (C-axis), over travels of 118.1 x 31.5 x 28.3 inches and a 137.8 x 32.3 inch table. It is driven by an 18,000 RPM CAT40 spindle with a 47 HP motor and rapid traverse of 1,968 IPM, served by a 48-station arm-type automatic tool changer and Mazak's Mazatrol Matrix 2 CNC control for conversational and EIA/ISO programming. The roughly 34,760 lb traveling-column platform delivers the mass and stability needed to hold five-sided, contoured parts complete in a single setup.

Compared with the earlier Mazak VTC-800 (pre-SR) traveling-column machines that preceded it, the VTC-800/30SR is a meaningfully more capable machine, not just a newer one. The SR configuration adds the +/-110 degree B-axis swiveling head and a higher 18,000 RPM spindle, turning a straight 3-axis mill into a true simultaneous 5-axis machining center, while the modern Mazatrol Matrix 2 control brings faster processing, smoother high-feed surface control, and quicker setup than the prior Matrix and Fusion 640M generations. Combined with the added Nikken NC rotary and the large 118-inch traveling-column work envelope, the VTC-800/30SR machines complex, multi-face parts in far fewer setups and delivers more finished work per shift than the 3-axis VTC-800 machines it replaced.
