2016 Haas VF-2 CNC Vertical Machining Center

The Haas VF-2 is a 40-taper CNC vertical machining center with a reputation for simple operation and dependable service that has made it one of the most widely used mills in job shops and production floors across North America. This 2016 VF-2 offers travels of 30 x 16 x 20 inches over a 36 x 14 inch table rated to 3,000 lb, driven by an 8,100-RPM CT40 inline spindle with a 30-hp vector drive and 1,000-ipm rapids on all three axes. It is equipped with a 24-pocket side-mount tool changer, is wired for a 4th axis with the drive and wiring in place, and carries flood coolant, a programmable coolant nozzle, and thru-spindle-coolant-ready plumbing plus rigid tapping on the Haas control. An automatic air gun and 55-gallon coolant tank round out a machine set up for everyday production.

Against earlier-generation VF-2 machines, this 2016 build is a clear step up rather than just a newer year. Haas moved the VF-2 to a high-torque inline direct-drive spindle and raised rapids to 1,000 ipm, a meaningful gain over the belt-driven heads and slower 710-ipm traverses of older VF-2s, while the current Haas control brought faster processing, more program memory, and networking. Stepping up from a smaller VF-1 or an older VF-2, a shop gains more travel, a larger side-mount tool changer, and 4th-axis readiness, which together mean shorter cycles, fewer setups, and the flexibility to add rotary work down the road - more capable iron, not merely a later serial number.
