The Haas VF-3YT is an extended-Y CNC vertical machining center from the Haas VF series, a line known for simple operation, easy service and dependable performance that has made it a fixture in job shops across North America. This 2018 VF-3YT is set up for 4-axis work with a Haas HRT210 rotary table and offers X 40 / Y 26 / Z 25 inch travels over a 54 x 24 inch table with seven 0.630 inch T-slots on 3.15 inch centers, rated for 3,500 lb evenly distributed, with 4.2 to 29.2 inches from spindle nose to table. The 8,100 RPM inline direct-drive CAT 40 spindle is rated at 30 hp with 90 ft-lb of torque at 2,000 RPM, uses air/oil injection bearing lubrication and is liquid cooled. Rapid traverse is 710 IPM on all three axes, with a 500 IPM maximum cutting feed and axis thrust of 2,550 lbf on X and 4,100 lbf on Y and Z. A 20-station carousel tool changer handles tools up to 3.5 inches in diameter and 12 lb, with a 4.2-second average tool-to-tool time and 4.5-second chip-to-chip time. Control is the Haas Next Generation Control with Ethernet, macros, rigid tapping, spindle orientation, HaasConnect, media display, early power failure detection and 1 GB memory. The machine also includes flood coolant, a chip auger and a Royal mist collector, runs on 220V 3-phase power at 70 full-load amps, and has a shipping weight of approximately 12,560 lb.
Compared with the standard Haas VF-3 and earlier classic-control VF-3YT machines, this 2018 VF-3YT is the better-equipped choice. The YT frame adds 6 inches of Y-axis travel over the VF-3's 20 inches and replaces the VF-3's 48 x 18 inch table with a 54 x 24 inch table, opening room for wider parts, multiple vises and larger fixtures. The Haas Next Generation Control replaces the classic Haas control with a faster processor, a redesigned interface, Ethernet networking and HaasConnect remote monitoring, making setup, program transfer and job tracking quicker. Paired with the HRT210 rotary table, the result is a meaningfully more capable machine, not just a newer one, that lets a shop take on 4-axis and larger-envelope work without stepping up to a bigger footprint.
