The Wele SB-316YM is a bridge-type vertical machining center with a reputation for rigid, dependable large-part performance that has made it a staple in heavy fabrication, pump, energy, and mold shops. This 2022 SB-316YM offers X 120 / Y 90 / Z 31.5 inch travels over a 118 x 59 inch table sized for long, wide, heavy workpieces. The CAT50 Big Plus spindle is rated at 6,000 RPM and 35 HP, a spindle package built for heavy roughing in steel and cast iron. The M-type configuration adds automatic head exchange for 5-face machining, and a right angle head lets the machine cut the sides of a part as well as the top in a single setup. Tooling is served by a 300-tool rack-type magazine with a side-mount tool changer, backed by a tool presetter. Control is a Fanuc 31i-B Plus with a color monitor. Chip and coolant handling includes 300 PSI thru-spindle coolant, a chip conveyor, a chip extractor, and a chip filter, making the SB-316YM a complete large-envelope machining package.
Compared with the standard Wele SB-316 and the earlier Toyoda-Wele SB-316 generation, the SB-316YM is a meaningful step up. The YM extended-Y design grows Y travel from 63 inches to 90 inches on the same 120 inch X axis, so parts that once needed repositioning or a larger gantry now fit in one envelope. Where the standard SB-316 shipped with a 32-tool magazine and optional 60, 90, or 120-tool upgrades, this machine carries a 300-tool rack magazine that keeps a full job library loaded and cuts time spent swapping tools between jobs. The M-type automatic head exchange turns a 3-axis bridge mill into a 5-face machining platform, and the Fanuc 31i-B Plus control builds on the 31i-B used on earlier SB-316 units with a faster, more current-generation CNC platform. For a shop buying a bridge mill, the SB-316YM delivers more reach, more tools, and more faces per setup than the machines it replaces.
