The Haas VF-2SS is a super-speed CNC vertical machining center with a reputation for straightforward operation and dependable uptime that has made it a staple in job shops, mold shops and production cells. This 2021 VF-2SS offers X / Y / Z travels of 30 x 16 x 20 inches over a 36 x 14 inch T-slot table rated for 1,500 lb, with 1,400 ipm rapids on all three axes. Its 40-taper inline direct-drive spindle is rated for 12,000 RPM and 30 HP and is set up for CAT 40 (CT40) tooling with CT-style tool changer grippers. Tooling is handled by the Haas high-speed 30+1 side-mount tool changer, which accepts tools up to 2.5 inches in diameter, 11 inches long and 12 lb, with a 1.8 second tool-to-tool and 2.4 second chip-to-chip time. The Haas control with touch screen is equipped with high-speed machining, rigid tapping, 1 GB program memory, Ethernet, WiFi connectivity, HaasConnect remote monitoring, HaasDrop file transfer, a WiFi camera, Safe Run and early power-failure detection. Coolant and chip management include a programmable coolant nozzle, 55-gallon coolant tank, auxiliary coolant filter, oil skimmer, automatic coolant refill, coolant maintenance package, Haas mist condenser, window air blast and a chip auger.
Compared with earlier VF-2SS machines built on the Classic Haas Control with a 24+1 side-mount tool changer, this generation adds the Haas Next Generation Control with touch screen, network and WiFi connectivity, remote monitoring and expanded program memory, plus a 30+1 tool capacity for more tools on hand between setups. Against the standard Haas VF-2, with its 8,100 RPM spindle, 20-pocket carousel changer and 1,000 ipm rapids, the VF-2SS delivers higher spindle speed, faster rapids and quicker tool changes in the same compact footprint. For a buyer, that means shorter cycle times on aluminum and small-tool work, fewer tool swaps and a more connected, easier-to-program machine - a meaningful step up rather than just a newer VMC.
